Midnight Café is the follow up to Wainwright’s 2007 release Plank Spankin’ and features some of the same players from that group. It showcases the exceptional talents of up and coming pianist/composer/producer Thomas Kinzel.

This collection contains eight originals. At times moodier than Wainwright’s previous work, these selections show great versatility from contemporary to latin and hip hop woven throughout by a common theme of sophisticated sensuality.

Kinzel came into his own during the creation of this cd. “His composing and producing chops accelerated at an astounding rate” explains Wainwright, “with each track getting better. I basically just handed him the reins.”

Joined once again by John Ferraro (Larry Carlton Band) and Steve Duben on drums and bass, these well crafted arrangements take on a life of their own. A guest appearance by Johnny Andrews (Tegan & Sara), also on drums provides just the jolt of energy required on Kinzel’s Swing City.

Their live show includes drummer Mike O’Leary. The trio has an incredible chemistry and Wainwright doubles on keyboard to free up Kinzel for his impressive soloing. “The songs were all composed with the live show in mind - challenging, yet very playable. Lots of room to improvise.”
